Making the World Just a Tick Better

The Mr. and Mrs. spent yesterday helping make the world just a tick better through manual labor and it was great!

Twice a year, my company sponsors volunteer days so that employees have the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the office and become more involved in our community. We've done it twice and both times were rewarding. This year we worked for an organization called Johann-Peter-Hebel Heim that helps mentally disabled and/or ill young people in the nearby town Mannheim.

Our job was to pull out a fence and all of the plants that have grown into it for the past 30+ years and then repost a new fence. To say that our little team of 8 overwhelmed the project organizers would be a total understatement. We tore it up, accomplishing significantly more than expected!! We even ran out of new fence pieces to put up!

But the best part is knowing that we were able to help out an organization that helps so many young people that wouldn't have any other place to turn to with them. "if you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else." - Booker T. Washington
