Picnic in Bed

Oh my goodness! Oh my!

The Mr, Bean, and I had a picnic in bed. By the Mr's doing.

Oh me, oh my! Look at how far he has come.

Christmas Cookies with Friends

Today we made Christmas cookies with our friend from Eritrea. It was her first time making sugar cookies. PJ and Bean ensured the experience was messy, loud, and wildly chaotic.

So, fun.

The final result was fabulous! Colorful iced cookies that were far too yummy for our own good.

I'd share pictures but well, most of them are already gone.

Jelly Bean is Two!

Our little lady is TWO years old! It was a wonderful day full of family, friends, surprises, Minnie Mouse, and "backe backe kuchen" (cake).

This was the first time she got to help bake cupcakes. She did a good job and ate only twice as much as made it into the cupcake holders.

After a morning of preparing the house and ourselves, Bean got to open the first of her gifts.

PJ helped. A lot.

After naptime we all got dressed into our party clothes. She got to wear a brand new "princess" dress.

The dress didn't stay for long - not a big surprise - and she got to be quite the expert at present opening by the end of the day. A number of friends came as well as family. It was a relaxed atmosphere with good people and good food.

As the evening came to a slow close, Bean finally got a quiet moment with Granny and Grandpa together.

We have so many more pictures, even with us parents!, of our wonderful day together.

Birthdays are special, an opportunity to celebrate the birthday kid as well as reflect on how lucky the rest of us are for that specific birthday kid.

Bean, I love you and I'm so grateful you joined us.

Special Family Time

Yesterday, without planning, the Mr and I ended up having special family time with each kid.

First PJ went to a friend's house for a play date and Miss, the Mr, and I went to our local Christmas market together.

When we got home, Miss crashed.

So PJ, the Mr, and I got to watch a special Christmas movie together, all cuddled on the couch.

I was reminded of how special these moments of attention and focus are for little and big ones. Life has be hectic and busy and fast. It doesn't have to be.

Girls Shopping Trip

The girls popped out to do some Christmas shopping.

The moving stairs were absolutely the first highlight for Bean. We rode them for a while and then she discovered a have-to-have headband. Girl has style.

After all our shopping was done, she pointed out the "coffeelady!" And of course the CoffeeLady's massive cookies.

I had a toffee nut latte and Ms. Proudly drank her water from a CoffeeLady cup.

Why I Run

Funny story, I accidentally signed up for a half-marathon in Portland, OR in August 2016. These are the awesome things that happen when I live my life by "yes!"

That 'awesome' is genuine.

Now that I'm back to training, I'm actively reminded of why I run.

First there are these remarkable views during my early morning runs:

And the role modeling for my kids.

Most powerfully, the attitude adjustment. For example:

Why I Run.

My Birthday According to my Sister

These came in all throughout my special day. Man does she make me laugh.

It started at midnight my time.

Then I woke up to this.

Followed up by this:

This one made guff out loud. At a very inappropriate moment.

It was and I loved each one.

Amen, oh amen.

Like sending me bunches of virtual postcards?

Next year, my dear, next year.

I love you too, Aunt Sally.

Now for Something Entirely New

And now for something entirely new: the Steinbach Clan is moving to Denver, Colorado at the start of May.

Based on the questions we’ve gotten in real life, it seems like these are some of the most popular questions:
We are all going.
I’m moving with my job.
The Mr. will be with the kids at the start to help the transition, afterwards he will be working. Or boarding.
Both kids are American. No additional paperwork needed.
We applied for the Mr's green card and expect to have it in the next few weeks.

The Mr. sending away one of many sets of documents for his green card.
My brother, his wife, two aunts, two uncles, and three cousins live in the greater Denver area.
Brother, beautiful and hilarious wife, and Ike
Germany has been great for a long time; this decision was a very difficult one to make; this has been a multi-year long process.
We are going to miss our German family a lot.
We are very excited and very nervous about the move.

We don't smoke pot and didn’t chose Colorado because weed is legal.

I’ve been there a number of times; the rest of the clan hasn’t yet.
Yes, I’m freaked out by the gun violence and have already joined the Colorado chapter of Moms Demand Action.
We are going to miss our friends, including those from Eritrea.
I will somehow continue to be active in the global refugee crisis.
We are not going to get a Mustang; a Dodge 4-door truck; or a dog. There may be a free-for-all on cotton candy and Reese's Pieces.

These are exciting times! What questions did I miss?

Good Picture Please

PJ and I had a mommy-son date recently. He is pretty reluctant to have his picture taken these days. I snuck this one and was pretty proud of myself.

When he saw the result, he was not amused and asked me to take another "good picture please." Then he posed. The result were these.

And finally :

He was finally happy with the outcome. Or the treat. Either way. What a cutie.

I was finally graced with permission to take a "selfie".

Lucky lucky lucky mommy.
