Why Wood Floors Are Awesome

I like wood floors because they look good. They are easy to keep (relatively) clean and are allergy-suffers-friendly. Since everyone likes pretty things; neither of us like to clean; and the Mr. suffers from a wide range of allergies between March and September, we are a wood floor household.

Yet, I only recently realized how awesome wood floors really are...and boy are they awesome. Wood floors make crawling chasing games fun, fast, and, with the right players, furiously loud.

Not Making This Up

PJ turned eight months old at the start of March. What if I told you that he is already walking around with the help of a walking toy?

Seriously. Really. I'm not making this up. I have proof.

In February we were happily surprised by our little boy as he started to sit by himself, crawl, and then pull himself up all at the same time. Since then he has perfected his crawl - hips swinging madly in his rush to move from place A to place B - and grown increasingly confident pulling himself up all. over. the. place.

Then he started to move around our coffee table and, just a few days later, between the coffee table and the couch. So we ordered a wood walking toy. I specifically chose a toy with various engagement options, thinking that PJ would play with it for a while before he started using it to get around.

Wrong.

First there was all the excitement for his second Daddy & Me project - far more than during the first one. The toy was relatively easy to put together (I think) and PJ wanted to be a part of each and every step, even stealing the screwdriver.

When it was finished, he immediately started to play with the games on each side. But more importantly, within a week, little man started using it to get around our place. In the past few days, his confidence has grown and to get this video I had to literally hold him back for half a second.

Some things do stay the same: PJ remains fascinated by the washing machine.

Eight months and cruising around our apartment on two feet (plus a little trolley). Crazy, super, awesome right?

The Toy That Keeps Giving

At just five weeks PJ started playing with his first toy: a silver rattle. Almost seven months later, he continues to be enthralled with that same toy. When he gets his little fist around it, there isn't much that can get between him and his rattle. Now he'll even hold onto it while crawling around the apartment, balancing himself on the rattle for a split second.

That "vroom" noise is new and entertaining - but that giggle remains my favorite!

Video: So Much in So Little Time

It's been an exciting, busy couple of days: PJ has started sitting on his own; really crawling around the apartment; and pulling himself up all around the apartment. Oh, and did I mention he cut two more teeth and is enjoying his first running nose?

Yeah, it's been a little crazy around here. Here is some video proof, look carefully and you'll catch the new teeth and the snot, along with the crawling, standing, and laughing.

I'm a proud mommy!

Look Mom, No Hands on the Floor!

It appears that remaining horizontal is out of fashion. Although little man isn't properly crawling yet - an effective army crawl gets him everywhere, fast - he is hungry to build leg muscles with some vertical pull-ups. Exciting, right?

Wait, on second thought, this is kinda scary? I mean, I'm just getting use to picking stuff up off the floor - and now I've gotta think about table tops? Hum ....
The first pull-up, late last week.

The second pull-up, just a few hours later.

Just a day later, he took on the coffee table challenge.

Which he then built upon, growing even more courageous on Sunday.

Monday he decided he was ready to climb the office chair - please notice the wheels. I put really heavy books on top of it so that I could grab the picture.

And then yesterday he started pulling himself up onto his high chair - and everything else at about that height. This is the only picture because I may be relatively hands-off and encourage PJ to stretch himself ... but I'm not crazy! Those legs are ambitious but they are not stable.

Oh, third thought - can I write that? - my little boy is reaching higher, farther, faster. And I'm there, behind him, helping him laugh off a safe fall or maybe cushioning a possible nasty one, but always letting him know that while today it may be his high chair, tomorrow it could be the stars. Or maybe even past the stars. And I will be always be there.

So, yes, exciting. Definitely exciting.

First Daddy & Me Project

Today we put away the Christmas tree and decorations and, since our little boy has become so mobile, officially folded up the blankets that were getting into his way, and put up the "baby cage" (also called a playpen, but I had to look it up on Google to learn that) so that every once we can do things like go to the bathroom and other selfish, useless activities.

PJ was disappointed to see the tree go but quite interested in his new toy. He quickly turned the set up into his first daddy & me project. I think it might have taken just a few minutes longer to complete, but both my boys had a good time.

And now PJ has his own little space in the living room for when he isn't busy taking over the rest of the place!

Hands and Knees

Little man is getting up on his hands and knees already. Granted, the pose lasts about as long as my downward facing dog does these days (which is best count in milliseconds), but still. Pretty cool.

I'd load a longer video but as soon as he sees the camera, he just hams it up and stays on his belly. What can I say, he's like his mommy.
